Dr. Laura Northerner, PhD, is a fully licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in working with children, teens, families and adults. She provides neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed therapy to clients across the lifespan. Dr. Northerner sees the strength, value and courage in every client, and she sees their boundless potential. She works collaboratively with clients to create a treatment plan that evolves with their needs. She focuses on strengths and resiliencies to foster growth.
Dr. Northerner has extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT). She has specialized training and experience treating anxiety, OCD, phobias, depression, trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, perfectionism, family conflict, parenting stress, and adjustment to life transitions. Additionally, she provides parenting guidance and support.
Dr. Northerner received her Bachelor of Arts, Master’s Degree, and Doctorate from Wayne State University. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Michigan's Mary A. Rackham Institute where she received specialized training in treating children, families, couples and adults. Dr. Northerner has over 15 years of clinical and testing experience in various settings, including community mental health, private practice, and university clinics. She has experience teaching at Wayne State University, and is a published researcher. She is a member of both American Psychological Association and the Michigan Psychological Association.
Dr. Northerner is also a member of PsyPact, which allows her to see clients across most states in the United States. She believes in increasing access to mental healthcare and values being able to support clients when they move, travel and leave for college.
